About Us

The My-MEDIC-Notes™ Program was developed by the Wellness Programs Division of Health Assured Financial Group by Jacqueline Figas CLU, Director of Marketing and Benefits Planning and Donna Ritch R.N., Director of Health Services. Jacqueline and Donna are both certified Elder Planning Counselors (“EPCs”) through the Canadian Initiative for Elder Planning Studies.

My-MEDIC-Notes™ is all about advance planning for health emergencies (Health Emergency Advance Planning™) and is based on a Past-Present-Future planning philosophy. The planning process begins with documenting critical information about your past and present medical history, and includes future planning through the use of a Living Will.

By implementing the My-MEDIC-Notes™ Program, you are to be congratulated on taking this important step in Health Emergency Advance Planning™ that could one day save your life, and reduce stress and guilt felt by family members over critical decisions made on your behalf during a medical emergency.

While no one wants to think that an emergency can happen to them, the reality is that it can. Every day, someone gets injured in an accident, and sudden illness such as strokes and heart attacks occur unexpectedly.

Thankfully, emergency medical responders such as paramedics and firemen are there within minutes, saving thousands of lives.

When faced with an emergency, you, your spouse or caregiver may find it difficult under stress to recall significant medical history – details such as medication reactions or allergies, or other important information that medics need to know.

Also, sadly divorce rates have risen over the past few decades leaving an increasing number of individuals living on their own. When an emergency arises, no one is there to speak for the individual to brief first responders and medical staff regarding not just significant medical background, but the person’s personal wishes. Would they want to be resuscitated even when end-of-life is imminent? Is it against their religious belief to undergo a particular medical treatment?

Most people plan for their future – whether it is setting aside savings for eventual retirement, a son or daughter’s future education, or travel and new hobbies in our senior years … the key is that by thinking about our needs and wishes in advance, we can put plans in place to ensure they are fulfilled.

Health Emergency Advance Planning™ similarly involves planning for the future. The process begins with documenting essential medical information - past and present, as well as documenting your wishes for the future about key medical decisions in the event you cannot make decisions for yourself. This program provides the tools to do this.
